Halt poverty

I AM writing concerning the global week of action (April 10 to 16), as part of the make poverty history campaign.

Over ten million people from thousands of organisations are taking part, and everyone can be involved.

I was shocked to read that 30,000 children die every day from extreme poverty.

As part of the global week of action, campaigners asked people to fast on April 11 and to try and spend only 60p on food on that day, as that is all that most of these people have to spend, in solidarity with the 850 million people who go to bed hungry every night.

When I first heard the 60p a day idea I tried to work out if it would be possible to feed my family of five on a budget of 60p per person a day.

It made me realise how much we take for granted.
