Memories

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of April 14, 1955:

* No records were broken during Easter at Barry, which was quiet compared with previous years - partly because of the weather and partly because Easter was three weeks earlier.

* Hopes that Cadoxton Albion would crown a very successful season by winning the Cardiff and District Ninian Stuart Cup were shattered on Monday morning when they were beaten in the semi-final at the Barracks Fields by St Albans, the holders.

* After 30 years' service in the Glamorgan Force, most of them spent in Barry, Sergeant Griff Roberts retired last week.

* Barry Town rounded off their best post-war holiday weekend with a good victory at Llanely on Easter Monday, thus completing a weekend "double" over the Reds.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of April 17, 1980:

* The Barry Town'A' snooker side stand an excellent chance of qualifying for the third round of this year's Welsh Inter-Town Knock-out Championship after a convincing 9-3 win in the first leg of their second round match at Tonypandy on Monday.

* Hamard Catering Management Services of Barry, has acquired the UK Interest of an international food company - Domco Food Services - whose headquarters are in Toronto, Canada.

* The following have been successful in the examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music held recently: Grade I, Phillip Southall (with merit); Grade III, Corinna Southall (pass).

* Council planners want Barry to get away from its "day-tripper" image and aim at attracting a "higher" class of tourist.
