Rugby team give shoppers a hand

BARRY Rugby Club's Under 15s and 16s packed their bags early for a tour of Ireland by helping customers with their shopping at Waitrose - and helping to raise 3,000 for a new kit.

They headed to the Palmerston Road store so they could buy tour shirts and tracksuits for each of the lads going to the Irish Festival of Rugby, which took place from April 1-4.

Barry were one of 12 teams in the tournament, playing in two pools of six, with the top three of each group progressing to the cup knockout competition.

Club Tour Manager, David Thomas, said: "We'd all like to thank Waitrose for their support. It's important our local businesses support our community sides and the kit will no doubt inspire the lads onto success."

Waitrose Checkout Manager, Richard Kirby, added: "The lads were very popular with our customers and a great help. We wish we could have them working here every weekend, but wish them all the best for the tour."
