Running for Jamie

A DAD and his running partner are hoping to raise more than £10,000 by Christmas for his son's memorial fund.

Paul Adamson of Churchfields and Ceri Binding of Pontypridd Road, both in Barry, are running the London Marathon to raise money for the Jamie Adamson Memorial Fund launched by the Barry and District News.

Jamie died of leukaemia at the age of five, and his dad Paul decided to raise money in his memory.

The 38-year-old said: 'We want to raise as much money as possible for the families and children who are suffering. My wife and I know what it is like to spend all our time in hospital. The children there are so brave and they don't complain.

'We have been training to get fit and run miles and miles. I have lost weight because of all the training.

'We will finish because it does not matter how long we take - it is for the children and the memory of Jamie.'

Ceri, who is also 38, said: 'I want to help Paul to raise as much as possible, because Jamie was my friend.

'We have been training together and will cross the line together.'

Paul and Ceri would like to thank all the people who have donated money so far.

The Barry and District News launched the appeal to raise funds throughout 2005. Money will be shared between LATCH, the Llandough children's cancer charity, and Children with Leukaemia, the national charity based at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

* A big thank you to all those who have donated money this week - including Mrs Marley, and Mrs Maureen Gardner who donated money in memory of her husband Tony who died of leukaemia last Easter.

Get Inn at disco

THE Old Paget Inn on Barry Island is holding a disco, raffle and auction on Thursday, April 7 - please note the change of date. Tickets cost £2. Wayne Takata, from the Inn said: 'There are lots of prizes which have been donated by local businesses. There are mountain bikes and televisions.'
