Girl fights to keep lake swans

A NINE-YEAR-OLD girl has started a petition to keep the swans at the Cold Knap lake.

Ellie Davies, of St Fagan's Avenue in Barry, loves to see the swans and other birds at the site.

A sign has been put up asking people not to feed the birds because of the problems they cause to aviation traffic from Rhoose airport.

And a few months ago the Vale of Glamorgan Council decided that the lake needed to be drained to make the birds leave - and the hope was that they would not return.

Ellie said: "I think the swans are lovely and they should be able to stay there.

"I wrote in a book why I wanted people to sign the petition. They could write yes or no if they wanted to keep the swans there."

Her mum Joanna said: "She has about four pages of signatures.
