David secures his place in Montreal

BARRY'S Olympic bronze medallist David Davies has booked his ticket to Montreal for the World Championships in July.

The swimmer won the 1500m freestyle event at the ASDA World Championship trials in Manchester.

The 20-year-old, who was third at the distance at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, clocked a time of 15:07.24.

He went off inside the pace which won him a medal in Athens, but slowed during the mid-section of the race.

But he fought back to overcame the dip, and produced a sub-60 second final 100m to make sure of his place in Canada.

However, the perfectionist was unhappy with his performance.

Speaking after the race he said: "It was 20 seconds outside my best - it was disappointing."

He blamed the dip in form on a miscalculation of his rest period before the trials.

"It was hard, I had no energy," he added.
