Tax rises

DO you remember the political promises being bandied about recently both in the press and on television - to the effect that the council tax would be reduced from something around seven per cent to 4.7 per cent?

In your dreams!

I have discovered that my council tax for the year 2005/2006 is to rise by 23.4 percent (from £1,020 this year to £1,259 for 2005/2006).

Isn"t it a shame that pensions are going to rise, for the same year, by only 3.7 per cent.

So much for the fairness which was to be brought about by "rebanding."
