* Literally hundreds of teenage girls crowded both entrances to the Strand Furniture Store at 49 Holton Road, Barry, on Friday afternoon. Their object - to get a glimpse of 30-year-old film star Donald Houston.
* Spidermen in Barry - nine of them - are on strike in support of the claims of the Constructional Engineering Union for higher wages.
* With only Independent members in opposition, the Barry Town Council on Monday evening approved a proposal to provide a gas-fired hot water installation at the Friars Road Cloakrooms, Barry Island at a cost of 902.
* The importance of Rhoose as an international airport has been recognised by the allocation by the Government in the Civil Estimates.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of March 20, 1980:
* A contract for over 25 million has been signed between the Geest Organisation of Spalding and Smith's Dock Co Ltd, a subsidiary of British Shipbuilders for the construction of two refrigerated vessels at Smith's Dock, Middlesborough, Teesside.
* Detectives from the British Transport Police and Barry CID are continuing their inquiries into the theft of 10,000 worth of whisky from Barry Docks.
* Paul Dance of the Barry YMCA was promoted to 1st Dan black belt when the British Judo Council held a grading at the Bridgend Leisure Centre.
* During the past nine months two major schemes have been brought forward which, if implemented, would have a significant effect on the future of the town centre of Barry and it is likely that a decision on one of them could be
made next month.
