Fire-raisers 'have no thought for others'

A DISABLED has been outraged by vandals who set fire to a sofa in his front yard, destroying part of his garden and damaging his car.

Former opera singer Jamie Miller, aged 55, had left the sofa outside his house in Runcorn Close to be collected by the Vale of Glamorgan Council the following day.

But someone set it alight and Mr Miller, who was alerted by a neighbour who saw the flames, called the fire service.

He said: "We were very lucky that the fire did not burn my car which was close to the blaze. My neighbour tried to keep the flames back by using his water hose.

"The tanks are at the back of the vehicle and if it had caught alight then who knows what could have happened.

"There are children living in the street and I hate to think what would have been the outcome if the car had been set on fire.

"As it is, the number plate was destroyed and some of the paintwork and lights were melted by the intense heat."

The repairs needed prevented Mr Miller and his wife from travelling to London to see their first grandchild.

He said: "It's disgusting what these people did - they had no thought for other people.
