THE Barry and District News is thrilled to learn that Barry Comprehensive School has decided to back our charity campaign - the Jamie Adamson Memorial Fund.
The fund has been set up in memory of Jamie, a little Barry boy who died from leukaemia at the age of five.
David Swallow, Barry Comprehensive headteacher, said: 'We are delighted to announce that the Jamie Adamson Memorial Fund will be our main charity this year.
'I met with Jamie's parents earlier this year and was very moved by their story.
'Jamie's brother Sam is one of our year 7 pupils. Boys in his form have already come forward wanting to participate in fundraising.
'We will be holding a series of events throughout the year. First of all there is Comic Relief Day, then we will be having a mufti day, a sleepathon and a bagpacking day in a Barry supermarket.
'We hope to hand over a big cheque at the end of the year.'
The Barry and District News launched the appeal to raise funds throughout 2005, with the money being shared between LATCH, the Llandough children's cancer charity, and Children with Leukaemia, the charity based at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.
Disco to raise money
A DISCO will be held at the Old Paget Inn on Thursday, March 31 to raise funds for the Jamie Adamson appeal.
Tickets are priced at £2. There will also be a raffle and an auction with prizes including TVs and mountain bikes.
