Clean lake

CLLR Jeff James, Leader of the Vale Council, writing in the Barry & District News (February 24) says 'the council took the decision to clean the (Knap) Lake following an incident in which a plane was struck by a bird!'

I am intrigued to know how the council and/or Airport authorities know that this bird came from the Knap Lake, and not another location, eg: Flatholm or Steepholm, both major breeding colonies.

What type of bird was it?

Was it a swan, a goose or duck, or, more likely (as there are far more of them around) a seagull?

In other words, what is the evidence?

Or, as many believe, is this just an excuse to drain the lake?
