Swan food

THE Trustees of Barry Swan Rescue would like to apologise to Mr Hale (letter Barry & District News, February 17) regarding the feeding of the Swans at Cold Knap Lake.

We do agree with the signs asking people not to feed the swans - but in part only.

The swans should be fed at a dedicated area of the lake only, ie in the water of the lake itself and not at the entrances to the park and in the feeder, a point Mr Hale seems to have misunderstood.

We would like to point out that Barry Swan Rescue is a registered charity, and as our name suggest we are dedicated to the rescue and care of sick and injured waterfowl.

Our constitution does not allow us to become involved with controversial issues.

If we are asked we will assist the council in the much-needed cleaning of the lake, as we did 10 years ago when it was last drained and cleaned.

We would not like to see the swans removed from the lake altogether, as they have been part of Barry since the 1930s.
