DESPITE the continuing dearth of fish, Sea View Lads Angling Club's magnificent chairman Steve Doble managed to pull off an excellent set of results, winning both of the last two weekly competitions.
His 10lb eel in last week's event helped him not only to the podium, but also several hundred pounds prize money.
This week, during a well attended but dismally fishless competition, he again excelled with a mixed bag of rockling and an eel, adding yet more to his already overflowing coffers. Royston Harding also had an eventful fortnight with another cod, but also paid the price for not setting up his tackle correctly when one of his gleaming poles was pulled out of its stand to disappear into the murky depths.
It was later salvaged undamaged after a night in the briny, although he did lose his hooks.
Other catches have consisted of mixed bags of rockling, eels and pout, and club members await the coming of the rays and dogs with bated breath (and baited hooks).
Tonight's meeting is scheduled for 7pm and there will also be an auction so be there early.
