Barry karter victorious despite theft

BARRY based racer Chris Evans began his quest for a third consecutive national Karting title with a win last weekend, despite having most of his equipment stolen the night before the race.

The 15-year-old had his helmet, racing licence, tools and personal items stolen from the Whilton Mill circuit in Daventry on Saturday night.

But the theft only increased his determination as he went on to beat many of the drivers he will face in this year's British Super 1 TKM Intermediate Championship the following day.

"The van was locked, but that didn't stop them," said Cwm Talwg resident Chris, who estimated the loss at nearly 3,000.

"I even had to pay a fine to the race organisers as they stole my licence."

Using a spare helmet and many borrowed tools, Chris went on to win two of three heats and the final on Sunday.

"Super 1 is top of the tree in British karting," he added.

"Even though this was a warm-up event, most of the top drivers were there."

Attempting his highest profile Championship to date, the reigning Formula 6 Intermediate Biland Champion knows that replacing the stolen items, will be tough.
