Motaquote Welsh League Division 1
AFC Llwydcoed 1 Barry Town 0
THIS was never going to be an easy series of games, and so it proved.
On a cold and blustery Saturday afternoon, Barry Town held out admirably for 72 minutes.
But AFC Llwydcoed got the all-important goal - and eventual winner - after the ball was squeezed in at the third attempt after a six-yard box mle.
It could have been a different story, though, had David Stowell's deft chip over the opposing keeper drifted inside the post, rather than just past it, right on the half-time whistle.
As it was, AFC Llwydcoed moved back to the top of the table, due to Ton Pentre having the weekend off. But their stay at the top was brief, as a refreshed Ton Pentre mercilessly heaped the misery upon Barry Town in a classy Tuesday night display.
Barry Town 0
Ton Pentre 5
The Dragons were left whimpering on the end of a 5-0 footballing lesson.
Both teams battled well on a frosty surface and against frequent snow showers at Treforest's White Tips Stadium, but Ton Pentre were deadly on the night.
A classy Ton team - certainly the best side Barry Town have faced this season - gave The Dragons their worst stuffing of the campaign so far.
It wasn't a bad performance by the out-of-towners, but Ton Pentre were always several strides ahead of the Barry players and were lightning quick on the breakaway.
And it wasn't as though Ton peppered the Barry penalty area with shots all night, but when they had a chance they invariably took it.
After going two down in 10 minutes - the first a well-worked free-kick, the second a howler from keeper Sutton - Barry were always going to be up against it.
Ton hero of the evening was Lyndon Williams, who scored four out of a very well-deserved five goals.
Ton went top of the Welsh League on goal difference over fellow challengers AFC Llwydcoed, who were also crushed 5-0 by Ton recently.
