Basketball club is grateful for new kit

BARCLAYS has come to the aid of a Barry sports club, by donating a complete set of coaching kit and equipment to a local basketball team.

The award, to Barry Basketball Club, has been made as part of the 30million grassroots sports programme Barclays Spaces for Sports.

The donation is one of 1,200 packs being awarded each year to ensure teams across the UK benefit from the three-year scheme.

Barry Basketball Club play and train at Barry Leisure Centre on Tuesday evenings, from 8pm to 10pm.

The juniors play and train at Holm View Leisure Centre, on Saturdays, 11am to 1pm.

The seniors and juniors compete in the South Wales Coast Basketball League and the South Wales Valleys Basketball League.

Team coach Elliott Thomas said: "Our club numbers have been increasing recently - especially our junior section.

"But we've never had the funds to buy training kit to improve our training sessions.

"The coaching pack from Barclays is brilliant and will really help us."
