Letters are just a scam

VALE of Glamorgan companies and organisations are being warned about bogus health and safety mailshots.

Two firms have been sending letters requesting money in return for compliance with health and safety law, says the Health and Safety Executive.

One firm, based in west Yorkshire, and calling itself the Health and Safety Registration Enforcement Division (HSRED), asks for between 199 and 249.

A spate of similar letters, using the same company name, were sent in 2004 from a Rochdale address. The latest letters are from Bradford.

Another firm, calling itself the Health and Safety Enforcement Agency (HSEA), which demanded 125 for a health and safety compliance pack in spring 2004, has also been issuing letters again.

Anyone receiving such literature should ignore it, says the Vale council. A council spokesman said: "None of these companies are connected to the HSE and organisations should be very wary of any approach from these firms or any company offering similar services.

"These companies are asking for significant sums of money, claiming they will send out information, much of which the HSE provides free of charge."
