MAY I through the pages of your paper make an appeal to all those parents who send their children to Bryn Hafren School to support the campaign organised by local Labour councillors to stop the planning application submitted by O2(UK)Ltd, seeking permission for the erection of a 20m mobile phone transmitter mast.
The positioning of this mast outside Bryn Hafren School, one of the Vale's largest schools, shows a clear disregard for the potential health problems that many experts believe may be caused by mobile phone radiation.
Just recently we have had published the concerns of Professor Sir William Stewart, chairman of the National Radiological Protection Board, who has warned parents that children under nine should not be given mobile phones.
And he accepted that enough uncertainty remained about the dangers of mobile phones that we should adopt a 'precautionary approach' - especially when it came to children.
If parents and residents share our concern then please write to the planning department at Vale of Glamorgan Council, Docks Offices, Barry, quoting planning application number 04/02007/FUL.
If anyone would like to phone me I will send on a copy of our petition calling for this planning application to be refused.
In my opinion, today's safe levels of mobile phone radiation will be tomorrow's dangerous and health damaging levels, just as asbestos and nuclear radiation were once seen as safe but with time have proven to be dangerous to public health.
I strongly believe that mobile phone masts should not be sited in close proximity to schools.
