Disappointment as Sports out of sorts

South Wales Senior League Division One

Pennydarren 3

Sully Sports 1

A VERY disappointing weekend for Sully Sports saw all three teams who played gain no points.

The senior league team visited Pennydarren and in a dour game were beaten by the long-ball tactics employed by an experienced home team.

It was always route one football and the physical Pennydarren side played it for the whole 90 minutes.

After taking the lead the Merthyr-based team were quicker to the ball.

Although a good run by Calvin McClaggon ended with Les Barrington sliding in the equaliser, the second half saw an improved Sports outplaying the home team until another long clearance was laid off for the Pennydarren forward to brilliantly hit a screamer into the net.

Sully went all-out for a goal but in the last minute a powerful header gave Pennydarren the points.

This Saturday Sports entertain Cogan Coronation in the South Wales senior cup kick off 1.30pm, players to report by 12.45pm.

Vale of Glamorgan League Division Two

Cwm Talwg 6 Sully Sports 2

The Vets were well beaten by an impressive Talwg display in sporting game.

This Saturday the Vets play at Bryn y Don versus Dinas Tech. Players report 1.30pm

South Wales Youth League (West Division)

Sully Sports 0 Grange Quins 3

The league's unbeaten teams met in good conditions at Swanbridge.

The game was a credit to the youth league with both teams playing good football.

Sports more than held their own in the first period against a well organised Quins who took the lead near half time.

Sully hit back well and missed numerous scoring chances after good approach work.

Indeed Sports could have been well ahead had they converted their scoring opportunities.

To rub salt into the wound Quins converted two rare chances as Sully fought out till the end.

Quins are a good side but on another day Sports can beat them.

Outstanding for Sports were Jamie Barnet and Stephano Domencio.

*azarou Sunday League Division Two

Victoria Park Olympic 2 Swanbridge Stars 3

Stars scraped a win in heavy conditions in Cardiff to keep their second spot in the league, in an otherwise disappointing weekend for the club.
