DVD Review - King Arthur

JERRY Bruckheimer's budget-busting film claims to be the true story behind the King Arthur legend.

Maybe there is an element of historical fact supporting this movie, but to be honest it takes all the romance away from the myths that have been part of British lore for so many years.

Arthur is played by Clive Owen, and while he's clear-eyed and broad shouldered, his depiction is lack-lustre.

However, the battle scenes are excellent. It seems as thought the whole movie was leading up to the final battle scene, with good reason. But that left little room for any real relationship to develop between Guinevere, Arthur and as the story goes, Lancelot, played very darkly and very well by Ioan Gruffudd.

Ray Winstone takes on an extremely lovable role as the battle-scarred Bors, but unfortunately, very few of the other Knights of the Round Table get much of a character reference, which is a shame because that was the whole point of Arthur's command.

Not a bad film for an afternoon's entertainment, but don't build your hopes up too high.
