'Use your common sense'

A BARRY man whose son was killed by a drink driver on Boxing Day last year has pleaded for common sense to prevail this Christmas.

Aaron Palmer, 18, was killed by the injuries he sustained after being hit by a vehicle driven by Thomas Barker, 21, of Rhoose, who was later found to be over the drink-drive limit.

Thomas Barker was sentenced to four months in a detention centre by magistrates.

Aaron's father Roger Palmer is now campaigning to make people aware of the devastating consequences drink-driving can have.

This Christmas he has had anti-drink-drive posters printed and put up around Barry.

Roger said: "We wouldn't want anyone to go through the suffering we have endured. We'll be sitting down for Christmas dinner this year and Aaron won't be with us. It's heartbreaking for the whole family. I never imagined I'd be burying one of my sons at the age of 18."

Vale police have launched a breathalyser operation which will run over the Christmas period providing a visible drink-drive deterrent.
