l The annual Christmas Party of the Barry Townswomen's Guild was held on Monday last. A large number of members joined in the games, competitions and dances and thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

l On Saturday, the Barry Welsh League Division II team entertain a Rhondda team at the Moors Hall, Cadoxton.

l At the monthly meeting of the Barry Town Council on Monday, the Mayor announced that he had extended an invitation to the South Wales and Monmouth Regional Executive of the National Housing and Town Planning Trust to hold its annual conference.

l One of two teachers who are sailing on the new liner, Liberia, to Australia on Christmas Eve is a Barry women, Miss Marjorie Andrews, whose home is at Park Road, Barry.

l A school crossing patrol is to be introduced on Port Road East Barry, adjacent to Colcot Primary School for a trial period.

l The Admiral Hotel in Vere Street, was the venue on Thursday for a coffee and mince pie morning in aid of the International Year of the Child.

l A mobile office, situated at Barry Island, was burnt to the ground on Thursday and completely destroyed.

l After joining the police force only four years ago, a young Barry officer, Police Sgt Andrew Jones, has been promoted to the rank of sergeant and, if he successfully completes a year in that office, will be promoted to inspector at the age of 27.

l Residents of the Garden Suburb area of Barry seem determined to continue their opposition to new residential proposals, on the controversial site off Westward Rise.
