CHANGING rooms at one of the main sports grounds in the Vale are in such a poor state that last week five players fell through the floor while taking a shower.
The three main sports clubs in Dinas Powys say conditions are "disgraceful" and have launched a campaign for new facilities.
They have won the backing of local councillors who say the changing rooms at Bryn Y Don, built in 1991, are "held together with bits of string".
Dinas Powys Football Club, Cricket Club and Rugby Club all play there, with a combined number of 33 teams.
Councillor Chris Franks has presented a petition to a Vale Council meeting calling for the run-down temporary changing rooms to be replaced.
He said: "The clubs have shown great commitment to this scheme.
"We had thought that a Sports Lottery grant would have match-funded the Vale Council's contribution. Our hopes were dashed when the bid to the Lottery was turned down.
"This was a heavy blow. I do not think that the Sports Lottery committee understands how many youngsters play at Parc Bryn y Don.
"Teams from all over the Vale use the pitches. In fact many local players are forced to play home matches outside Dinas Powys."
Vale of Glamorgan Council member Chris Williams said: "This sports ground is one of the jewels of the Vale. But the changing rooms are a disgrace. They are held together almost with bits of string."
Vice chairman of Dinas Powys Rugby Club and Cricket Club and one-time chairman of the football team Paul Marks said: "It is a disgrace what the teams have to put up with.
"The other day five players went in to have a shower and fell through the floor.
