EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of November 25, 1954:

What is believed to be the first pilot installation of outdoor heating in Wales is now in operation outside the Gas Showrooms of the Wales Gas Board, in Broad Street.

Flood waters, in some places the worst known for over 20 years, were subsidising yesterday, in sunshine, after the heavy rain storms of the previous day.

There is hope of a reprieve for tenants of allotments at Cemetery Road East who received notice to quit recently.

An innovation at this year's Mayor's Ball, held at Bindles on Wednesday week, was the presentation by Barry Town Develop- ment Committee of a photographic album to Ald Tom Yeoman and Mrs Olwen Yeoman, last year's Mayor and Mayoress, to mark their year of office.

Barry born John B Williams, who is port director at Southampton, has been appointed as an executive member of the British Transport Docks Board, it was announced last week.

A parachute jump by six employees of BP chemicals at Barry and two friends has resulted in a cheque for £580 being presented to Mrs E Ralphs, area secretary of the Leukaemia Society.

Mrs Sally Bryn Evans, of Barry, who specialises in making items for sale at Christmas fairs, talks to Gwenda Rees on the Welsh language women's programme.

After 22 years as licensees of one of the Vale's most popular drinking and eating establishments a Rhoose couple, Ron and Maureen Brewer of the Fontygary Inn, Rhoose, are leaving the area at the end of this week.
