Teachers protest over opening time

A BARRY school has started a petition to protest against the new opening time of the Court Road car park.

The staff at the school can not park in the free multi-storey car park because it opens at 9.15am.

Headmistress Val Simpson said: "It's a disgrace that our staff have to find an alternative parking space. There are parking restrictions on most of roads around the school. Even if they park in a two-hour waiting limit space they can not move their cars.

"We can not walk out of school and all move our vehicles at 9.15am. There are 30 members of staff who need to be in school before 9.15am. I don't understand the thinking behind this idea. I have never known it to be full. I myself have never needed to park on the top floor. If we were told to just park on the top levels so shoppers could park I would not see that as a problem.

"Parents who park in the multi-storey are also finding it a problem.

They can not park in front of the school. They could leave their car and safely take the child into school but not now."

The opening time will be in place until the New Year but Barry businesses have also voiced the opinion that the car park is causing them problems.

Alex Grigoriou, who owns S Gregory and Son on Holton Road, is furious.
