Partnership calls for help identifying graffiti vandals

THE VALE of Glamorgan Community Safety Partnership is asking the public to help identify vandals who have recently defaced property in Cowbridge with graffiti.

In the past few weeks offenders have sprayed'NOC' and'ARK' - their identity marks or'tags' - on property in the town and local Police and the council's enforcement team are seeking assistance in apprehending them.

The council spends in excess of 100,000 a year tackling graffiti and cleaning up after these two offenders alone will cost in the region of 500.

Graffiti offenders are often easy to identify by their tag as they typically use their name or nickname. A database of known tags now exists in the Vale and is proving to be a real help in deterring and catching prolific offenders.

Police believe that people regard incidents of graffiti as a'trigger of fear' within the community, which is why The Vale of Glamorgan Community Safety Partnership works relentlessly to tackle the problem.

Police Inspector Matt Evans, said: "The Vale of Glamorgan has a high crime detection rate and is one of the safest places to live and work in South Wales. We want to keep it that way so we would urge the people of Cowbridge to help us to stop these mindless acts of vandalism."
