Brave Rhoose put on a good show despite rain

Rhoose entertained Port Talbot side Four Winds on Saturday in the SWFA cup and after putting up a spirited performance lost an entertaining game 3-2. With the playing conditions being what may be described as wet and windy, both sides endeavoured to play an open and passing game and chances were soon created at both ends.

Evans in the Rhoose goal was tested with several well struck shots from distance but was able to deal with them comfortably.

The Port Talbot side then missed two good chances before Rhoose broke down the left and from Gordons cross, Joma Bryl sent a diving header from the edge of the area whistling past a helpless keeper.

Rhoose then came under more considerable pressure from an increasingly proficient and organised outfit, but with Park and Jones in good form in defence managed to hold firm.

When Rhoose did manage to break forward they did cause the Port Talbot side problems through the pace of Ringham, Ashman and Gordon, and from an excellent free kick from Bagnall who had a fine game, Jones rose at the far post to power a header into the opposite corner for a 2-0 lead.

Shortly after Ashman narrowly failed to finish off a fine move he himself started , and the ball went up the other end where some hesitancy in making the tackle allowed the centre forward a clear shot on goal and it was 2-1.

With the conditions worsening it was becoming clearer that the Port Talbot side were adapting better and they always looked dangerous.

Within ten minutes of the second half starting they scored two goals and were scarcely troubled after that although to Rhoose's credit , they finished strongly even though they played the last 20 minutes with only ten men through injuries, after using all their substitutes.

Despite the difficult conditions the game was played in a good spirit and was expertly controlled by referee, Mr G. Chesterton.

Rhoose : Evans, Atherton, Park, Jones, Bagnall, Ashman, Preece, Ringham, Alldred, Martlow, Bryl, Bolton, Gordon.
