Slip-sliding away to a 1-1 home draw

SULLY SPORTS 1

FAIRWATER 1

AFTER hours of rain, the pitch at Swanbridge still proved playable, and both sides looked to play attacking football, in this South Wales Senior League Division game.

The visitors took a 15-minute lead when Wayne Marks surged through and scored.

Sully countered well and when Calvin McClaggon was put through, his speed took him through on goal, but his shot ended up hitting the keeper.

A similar move on 30 minutes saw the same player pull wide to centre for Les Harrington to score an equaliser for Sully.

The very wet conditions dictated the play, with players slipping and sliding. The second half saw Sports take the game to Fairwater and only some excellent goalkeeping stopped Sports taking the lead.

Sully were denied a good scoring position when Gooderham was adjudged to have fouled the keeper.

There was still time for Ferguson to crash in a shot which the keeper deflected over the bar.

Both teams thought they could win the game, but it ended with a share of the points in this hard-fought game in difficult conditions.

This point means that with a game in hand, Sports are only three points off the top of the table.

This Saturday, Sports take the road again, to visit Penydarren, leaving at 12.30pm sharp.

THERMIC SERVICES 7

SULLY SPORTS 3

The Vets visited the well-fancied Thermic Services in the Vale of Glamorgan Division 2 and struggled in the heavy conditions in the first period, turning round 5-0 down.

Things improved in the second half as Vets replied with three goals, but Thermic finished strongly to notch two more goals before the end.

This Saturday, Vets are at the Sports Centre to play Cwm Talog, ko 1.30pm.

YOUTH VICTORY

The Youth side had a convincing win over a weak Baglan team who were unable to hold the unbeaten Sports.

This Sunday, kick-off 2pm, Sports will face their biggest test yet when they entertain the strong Grange Quins Youth team in what should be a cracking game.

The team has agreed to play the Welsh Youth Cup match against the mighty Cardiff City Youth on Wednesday, December 8, at the University Grounds, Treforest, kick-off 7pm.

The boys would appreciate support for this outstanding tie. The winners face Swansea City in the next round.
