Tae kwon do clubs travel to Cwmbran for Welsh team Championships

THE BARRY and Millennium Dragons tae kwon do clubs travelled to the Cwmbran Leisure Centre to take part in the WPKA World Champion-ships Welsh team selection tournament.

The first event was traditional patterns. Sion Ford took first place and Mollie Arbuthnot took second. Mollie also took third place in points sparring, Carys Thomas took third place in patterns to make it a clean sweep for the Dragons. Carys also took second place in points sparring losing to Abigail Palfrey in the final. Abigail then went on to take first place in continuous sparring.

Jadine Procope also took first place in continuous sparring to keep her fine run of form going. Ashley Coles was also in the medals again with a second place in continuous and third place in points sparring. Cameron Davies was again in fine form taking two third places in points and continuous sparring, also taking third places were Sam Sturgess, Rory Coleman, Rhian Rowlands who was taking part in her first tournament.

Tammy Roberts also took third place in ladies points sparring and the day was finished off with brothers Mark and Richard Palfrey taking first and second places respectively. Wayne Kamans, Leighton Rowlands and Leigh Saunders all just finished outside the medals but put up good performances on the day. The Dragons will now travel to Larnaka, Cyrpus, on March 13 to 20, to take part in the WPKA World Championships.

Anybody interested in Tae Kwon Do can call in at the Barry YMCA, Tuesdays 5-7pm, Thursdays 6-8pm or Saturdays 5-7pm.
