Leisure personnel celebrate achievements

FOUR Vale of Glamorgan Council leisure personnel are celebrating after gaining membership of a prestigious professional body.

The four - Simon Jones and Brandon Walters, assistant managers at the Cowbridge and Llantwit Major leisure centres respectively, Craig Nichols, manager of Lifestyle Health and Fitness at the Barry centre, and Zoe Kerslake, assistant manager at the Barry centre who is currently on a world tour - have successfully become members of the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management (ISRM).

A professional body for sport, leisure and recreation operators in the country, the ISRM encourages the safe, effective and efficient management and operation of facilities, and assists operators in ensuring good practice across the country.

Studies undertaken at Barry College covered all aspects of leisure management, with the disciplines ranging from pool water treatment to management technique.

Vale leisure services manager Jamie Morgans said: "The course requires a dedication and effort and the team's success must be viewed in the context of them combining their studies with their demanding jobs managing the leisure centres in the Vale. It's a fantastic achievement for all four."
