Copy of a letter sent to the Vale Council
I am writing with regards to the proposals to allow parking at the multi-storey car park only to shoppers to Barry Town Centre and disallow workers to park their cars for the working day from November 20, 2004. I am an employee of the Vale of Glamorgan Council. I work for the Mental Health Team based at the Amy Evans Centre in Holton Road directly opposite the car park.
The parking facilities could not be more convenient for myself, colleagues and clients, but if we are unable to park at the multi-storey car park then where should we park?
Current parking around the town centre is limited to two hours - no good to me when I work full time. Do we have to move our cars to another location several times a day to avoid a parking ticket?
And, with regards to the residents of the town centre - how are they going to feel to have vehicles parked outside their homes all day?
The car park is never full to capacity, even on a market day, so what exactly is the motivation for this?
The whole idea seems completely ridiculous to me and can only cause more chaos and traffic problems with potential accidents highly probable. I would like the Vale council to clarify the difference between shopper and worker as although I work in the town I also do my shopping there too.
I feel that they are discriminating against the many people who work in the town.
Please scrap this notion immediately - it's not going to work.
