Store's duty

WHEN the former Safeway store was being converted to Waitrose I visited Morrisons superstore at the Waterfront. I was astonished to find there were no recycling facilities where customers could deposit newspapers, magazines, glass and plastic bottles, charity clothing, etc.

I asked customer services for an explanation. There was none. I was assured of a response from head office. None came. I visited the store again to remind them, but I am still awaiting an answer a couple of months later.

At a time when we are urged to conserve finite resources, why is it that Morrisons chose to pursue commercial interests while ignoring their role in the local community?

The Vale Council repeatedly urges its citizens to play a responsible part in recycling initiatives.

Perhaps the time has come, councillors, to light the blue touchpaper and place a rather noisy squib under Morrisons' idle complacency?
