For museum

I WAS encouraged to read the Conservative Council Leader call for a local History Society to be set up in Rhoose. I would like a similar society to be established for Bonvilston, but I don't think we have enough individuals living here to support one.

What the Vale requires - as well as more local societies of all description - is a Vale Museum.

Establishing a Vale Museum at present has its pitfalls as Barry Town's constitution in particular does not permit such an undertaking.

As an active campaigner for a Museum at the beginning of the 1990s, it seemed then that their was a great deal of support locally and that at the least a Independent Museum was possible.

However, over a decade on talk of establishing a Museum has died down, and I regret sincerely not continuing a campaign I had began. At present Barry has one display of artifacts at CopyIt, Holton Road.

In the long term all we can hope for is a small room in the newly refurbished Barry Town Hall, and its display contents controlled by the council.

Do the people of Barry and the Vale still wish to establish an Independent Museum? If so please contact me directly on 01446 781 585.
