A PATH running alongside a Barry beauty spot is so badly maintained that it is putting people off using it, according to one infuriated local man.
Billy Harris, of Redbrink Crescent, claims the walkway around Nells Point, on Barry Island, has insufficient drainage and frequently becomes muddy and unusable.
Bovis Homes moved the well-used Nells Point walk when the housing development was built.
Despite complaining about the problem two years ago, Mr Harris says water still runs off the site on to the path, which is loose gravel and is being washed away.
Mr Harris came to the News about the path when he first noticed the problem and the Vale of Glamorgan Council assured him there was an agreement with Bovis Homes for a permanent tarred path, but that has yet to materialise.
The pensioner, who walks his dogs Meg and Sian along the path twice a day, said: "The path is a mess. There is water running off the building site on to the surface of the walkway."
John and Myra Brennan, of Friars Road, have stopped taking their dogs along the path.
John said: "We used the path regularly but go around the other way instead now.
"It is a mess. It has been two years like this. Work was started on the path at one end and the council had some money to continue past the development, we were told, but it stopped."
Mr Harris is annoyed that nothing has been done for two years. He said: "Water is running down on to the Jackson Bay path and causing problems for the people using it.
"They started the path but didn't finish it."
Bovis Homes said that they had complied with the council's wishes for the path when it was moved because of the development.
The council confirmed the path was their responsibility and said they would look into the matter in due course.
