EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of November 4, 1954:

Old boys of Romilly School gathered in force at Rowe's Cafe, Barry Island, on Saturday to celebrate the coming-of-age of their annual reunion and to take part in the sings of the school song under the baton of their old teacher, W M Williams.

The Mayoress (Joan Jones) performed the opening ceremony of the autumn fair held by the Ladies' Circle of the Barry Branch of the Loyal Order of the Moose, yesterday (Wednesday) week.

Barry Town AFC made a profit of £836 7s for the year ended May 31, 1954, but only after receiving £2,450 in transfer fees and donations amounting to a total sum of £2,878 13s 6d.

Sir Hugo Boothby, Bt of Fonmon Castle, Fonmon, near Barry, has been appointed a member of the BBC Welsh Agricultural Advisory Committee, recently formed by the British Broadcasting Corporation.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of November 8, 1979:

A fire engine valued in the region of £80,000, was damaged while being loaded onto a Geest Line cargo vessel at Barry Docks on Monday afternoon. It is believed that the engine fell onto the docks.

The accumulative cost of the £6m civic and leisure centre at Broad Street, Barry, could spiral a further £358,000 if a recommendation from the Finance and Policy Committee is accepted by the full Vale Council on Monday.

A new plan has been worked out for the controversial residential development at the end of Westward Rise, Barry.

Barry's MP Sir Raymond Gower, officially opened the new Ship Hotel at Harbour Road, Barry, last week.

The threatening autumn showers obligingly stayed away when the Duke of Kent paid a fleeting visit to Barry last week as part of a whirlwind tour of South Wales lifeboat stations.
