BARRY police have launched a massive manhunt after a serious sexual assault at the weekend.
Officers are searching for two men in connection with an alleged attack on a 20-year-old woman in Coldbrook Road in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Sometime between 3.30am and 4.40am, the victim, who is understood to live in Cardiff but was staying with relatives in the area, was seriously sexually assaulted. Her condition after the attack is not known.
Detective Inspector Knowles from Barry CID is heading the investigation. He said: "We have a firm description of one of the attackers. He is a white male around 20-years-old of average height and build. He was wearing a long-sleeved T-shirt and a baseball cap and spoke with a local accent.
"We do not have a close physical description of the second attacker, but we know he had an overwhelming smell of deoderant."
A 750-metre area, which included land and houses on Coldbrook Road East and Cowbridge Street, was cordoned off while police looked for evidence, which meant St Cadoc's Church was out of bounds for Sunday worship.
It is thought the attack took place somewhere between the Three Bells pub and Gary and Norma's Store and the entrance to the houses on Churchfields.
Several police officers were posted at the scene until late on Monday evening and Church Terrace residents had to sign in to get to their homes.
Father John Hughes has looked after St Cadoc's Church for more than 12 years. He said: "Since I have been here there has been no trouble at all. We do get kids playing football in the churchyard and people having a drink in the pub next door, but nothing has ever happened like this.
"It is a pleasant area and there are very few problems. I haven't been told anything about the incident."
Superintendent Josh Jones, Commander of the Vale of Glamorgan Police, held a briefing about the investigation with senior officers on Tuesday morning, but no further information has been released.
Anyone who witnessed the attack or thinks they might have information relevant to the case, can contact DI Knowles on 01446 731606.
