Stop waste

May I draw your attention to a landmark project that began on Monday, October 18.

The Big Recycle is a national campaign aimed at encouraging the public to recycle more. In Wales, a bilingual media campaign run by Waste Awareness Wales and funded by the Assembly, will follow.

Wales is already leading the way - being well ahead on the road to achieving the best recycling levels in Britain, with community groups and local authorities embracing the challenge.

With money from the lottery fund, Europe and the Assembly, WCVA, in partnership with Cylch, has been able to support community recycling projects throughout Wales.

As part of The Big Recycle, which is being organised by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), projects across Wales are being held for the public to visit.

It is predicted that these exciting initiatives will help Wales become a leader in recycling within the UK.

In order to achieve this, we urge every resident to do their bit to help, whether it's taking newspapers to the nearest paper bank or simply leaving them in the box for kerbside collection.

Mal Williams, Chief Executive, Cylch, and Graham Benfield, OBE, Chief Executive, Wales Council for Voluntary Action
