Help at last

A PETITION calling for improved safety facilities at the zebra crossing on Holton Road, near the Weston Hill Post Office, has just been given to local Vale Councillor Barry Shaw. He is then to present it to a meeting of the full council.

I thank Councillor Shaw for his interest and enthusiasm in this matter, which is in sharp contrast to the times I have tried to raise the question of the crossing's safety in the past.

The almost 800 signatures on the petition give a clear message of public concern to the Vale council and also voice a protest to those drivers who treat Holton Road like a race track (why do these people seem to be immune from CCTV and speed cameras?).

Many thanks to all those who signed the petition but particular thanks to the ladies of Weston Hill Post Office who obtained at least half of the signatures.

It seems a shame that this should be now under threat of imminent closure. As well as putting lights on the zebra crossing it would be nice if the council were to do all in its power to save such a fine post office. Perhaps if it was situated on the waterfront, with all that public money, its future would be more assured.
