Cruel Jobs

YOUR correspondent, Mike O'Leary (Barry & District News, Thursday, September 30) expressed deep concern over the anticipated job losses arising from the ban on fox hunting.

However, he didn't express any criticism of the sadistic cruelty involved in that so- called sport.

If Mr O'Leary had been around when bear baiting was banned, would he have defended that 'sport' I wonder?

If he lived in Spain, would he support bull fighting, a form of 'entertainment' which, in my view, is even worse than fox hunting.

I wonder how many of the hunting fraternity shed a tear when tens of thousands of miners and after industrial workers lost their jobs during the eighties?

Parliament voted by a massive majority to ban fox hunting after a very lengthy period of discussion. Their decision was long overdue, but I'm sure it's a decision supported by the majority of the population.
