IN the next few months we are going to be bombarded with leaflets asking us to vote, and yet the numbers of voters not bothering to do so because of their disillusionment with political parties and politicians is gradually increasing.
I think that in the materialistic society that we live in that we should adopt an idea from one of the states in America in giving every voter that attends and votes in the election a raffle ticket on which they place a contact number, their address or the name of a charity.
At the end of the election and after the results are declared, a draw is held and lucky voters receive a prize.
If half the money wasted on the postal votes scheme in the last local election and the money spent on advertising to try and get electors to vote in the next and failing was paid out in prize money I wonder how many more would turn out and vote.
