OSB on course to sweep championship top three

BARRY-based Kart team OSB Motorsport are on course to sweep the top three positions in the 2004 Llandow Kart Club Senior ProKart Championship in their first full season together.

Michael Hamilton, who has three wins so far, leads team owners Craig Camilleri and Henry Beaudette by more than 100 points after eight of ten rounds, despite a problematic day last Sunday.

Hamilton recovered from losing a chain in an earlier heat to finish third in the final, behind Aberdare's Chris Lipscomb and Camilleri.

"It wasn't a good day," said the 21 year-old. "But as I'm way ahead in the Championship it didn't affect me too much."

By contrast, Camilleri had his best weekend of the year, swapping the lead with Lipscomb throughout the final, setting a personal lap record and crossing the line just 11 hundredths of a second behind.

"That was close," claimed the 24-year-old. "I got alongside him in the final turn but he had the best line."

Camilleri is second in points, ahead of ex-Barry Comp-rehensive pupil Beaudette.

Beaudette finished fifth on Sunday and has used consistency to move ahead of defending Welsh ProKart Champion Paul Saunders into third place overall.

"There are still two rounds to go," remarked Beaudette. "That's eight races so a lot can happen. But we've worked hard all year and the results speak for themselves."

Novice driver Darryn Cross was on course for his best ever finish before a spin dropped him to ninth while Tom Davenport also went off course in avoidance and came home eighth.

"I was trying to pass Tom," recounted Cross. "I got off-line and just lost it." Even so, the two Barry drivers are eighth (Davenport) and 13th in the Championship, first and second in the rookie standings.
