Magician to help victims

A BARRY magician has offered his services to raise money for the tragic victims of the Beslan massacre in Russia.

Peter Hopkins of Broad Street is a children's entertainer and was so moved by the scenes that he wanted to help the parents and relatives of the tragic village.

He said: "I want to do five or six performances in primary schools in the area. The children at the schools could give £1 each for the show. This could be quite a few hundred pounds to go to the Red Cross who I will donate the money to."

There were hundreds of children killed in the Beslan school by terrorists. They set up bombs to kill the students and adults in a refurbished gym building.

Mr Hopkins is a father of one and understands what it is like to worry about his child. The 35-year-old is married with an 11-year-old daughter. He has raised money before for Ty Hafan.

He said: "I have put the idea to other magicians and I hope they will all do the same. I can do the shows over the next few weeks so I ask people to contact me as soon as possible."

The British Red Cross has launched an appeal to help victims of the tragedy at the Beslan school in North Ossetia, Russia. Money raised by the appeal will be used to fund activities supporting the survivors and the families of the victims. It will address the emergency and longer-term needs of the affected population. It will help children and other people injured or physically disabled with home care and nursing support. It will also fund the cost of support for the survivors and their families at psychological and rehabilitation centres. Any primary school with four- to 11-year-olds interested in a 45-minute close up magic show can email Mr Hocus Pocus at his website on www.wizard-enter tainments. co.uk
