50 YEARS AGO EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of September 16, 1954: l In the singles championship final of the Barry Ladies' Bowls Club, played on the Central green on Tuesday, Mrs J Beasley defeated M Heathfield by 21 shots to 14.
The Rev D G Brinn has taken up his duties as curate at Cadoxton. Brother of Mr A S Brinn, the Barry Grammar School master, he was formerly curate at Maesteg.
The fifth list of donations to the Dr Edgar Jones Memorial Fund, bringing the total near the £2,000 mark. The fund aims at the erection of a cricket pavilion for the Barry Grammar School in memory of its late headmaster.
