Dragons in Welsh battle

BARRY Dragons and Millennium Dragons took part in the Battle of South Wales, at Pontypridd, a freestyle tournament with different martial arts competing.

The Kata division was won by Sion Ford with Paige Evans fourth and Cameron Davies fifth.

Paige also took second place in Points Sparring, losing a close final after excellent early round victories.

Jace Hughes, Jadine Procope and Danny Makin all picked up third places despite giving away height and weight. Jadine also picked up a silver in Continuous Sparring.

Mark Palfrey was first in the Men's - 75kg Points Sparring, and another senior trophy winner was Alan Evans, who took second in Points and third in Continuous Sparring.

The group of the day was the Under 145cm Points Sparring won by Sam Sturgess. Fighting against different styles in the early rounds Sam fought through to the final and won after the first over time.

Anyone interested in Tae Kwon Do can call in at Barry YMCA on Tuesdays 5pm to 7pm; Thursdays 6pm to 8pm; Saturdays 5pm to 7pm.
