ST Cadocs Church, Cadoxton, Barry, held a sponsored teddy bear parachute jump and picnic on Sunday, August 29.
The weather fortunately stayed dry for most of the afternoon, if a little windy for the 33 brave bears that dared to jump from the tower after undergoing medical checks in the state of the art first aid tent and being pronounced "fit to fly."
Most of the bears landed safely, although for the few with minor injuries stretcher bearers were on hand to transport them to the nurse for treatment. Each participating bear was awarded a certificate of bravery and later attended a teddy bear picnic with their owner.
The prize for the best dressed child's bear was awarded to Eleri with Fudge, and the adults prize given to Sylvia Davis with Teddy Stevens. We had a special guest appearance this year of ET who after watching the proceedings and obtaining sponsorship went home in his spaceship.
This event raised the grand sum of £385 to date which will enable the parish churches of St Cadocs and St Marys to send a further 182 gift-filled shoe boxes to needy children in Eastern Europe this Christmas time. For some of the children this will be the only gift they will receive. Thank you to everyone for their attendance at this event and for all your sponsorship for this worthwhile appeal.
