Cost of fun

I WRITE in regard to the fantastic time that I had with my two small children at Barry Waterfront last weekend.

There was a vast variety of shows and stalls to choose from and the bands playing at the time we were there were great. Unfortunately, the only disappointment that I experienced was the expense of it all!

Each ride that my children wished to go on was either £1.50 or £2 per child - this included a stall where they would win a plastic sword - probably the value of which would have been 50p at a discount toyshop! No parent enjoys saying no to their children when they wish to go on shows so I found myself spending £37 in a matter of 30 minutes!

On deciding that enough money had been spent, I decided that we would take a walk up to Thomas the Tank and perhaps, with the £10 I had left, take a ride on him. To my absolute astonishment the price to ride on Thomas was £17.50, this was for one adult and two children. How on earth can the price be justified?

Needless to say I did not venture on to the train, nor did the family of six in front of me. I believe that Thomas has been funded by the National Lottery so was very surprised to find that they were charging these prices with not even a family ticket at a reduced price available.

Does anyone know who decides on the price of such things? All in all the day was a success, apart from the lack of funds in my purse at the end of the day. Name and address supplied
