CD review of Funky Dory by Rachel Stevens

SHE'S one 'eck of a sex bomb and she seems to have a good bit of talent behind her, too.

Rachel Stevens, formerly of teen-dream band S Club 7, one of the most successful pop acts of the Nineties, was the first when the group split in May 2003 to land herself a million pound record deal.

Her first single, Sweet Dreams my LA Ex, was very catchy and set the tone for other tracks on her debut album.

She has since released Funky Dory as a single, showing a darker side with slightly harder lyrics and an all-round more grown-up approach. Although her ballads could generate a touch of the 'so what's new' approach, Rachel's faster, up-beat songs are a real treat. The latest onslaught Some Girls is a fabulous homage to the Eighties.

And as for a retro trip to the era of big shoulder pads and vibrant eye shadow, Rachel's cover of More More More is a rumour that the video is going to create some waves.

In all, the album keeps up a great pace, a mellow approach and a sexy, dancey feel. It's a cracker!
