TRAFFIC calming measures in Sully need to be urgently reviewed, according to local MP John Smith.
He claims a number of people have contacted him to raise concerns about work done along South Road, near the Post Office.
He said: "Outside the Post Office, which is particularly busy, the road narrows to one lane with a zebra crossing on it.
"I have heard stories of people actually accelerating to get through rather than giving way to on-coming traffic. If this is the case then it could actually be more dangerous now than before.
"I always welcome traffic measures that improve safety so I have written to the Vale of Glamorgan Police to ask them to look at it again. The last thing any of us want is to see a serious accident at this spot," Mr Smith said.
A spokesman for the Vale of Glamorgan Council said: "Along with other similar traffic management schemes in the Vale, the situation at Sully is kept under constant review and possible suggested changes would need to be looked at in the context of a number of issues relating to the safety of pedestrians and motorists.
"The council considers an increasing amount of requests for the implementation of such schemes right across the area, and limited budgets mean that priorities have to be set."
Sully councillor Anthony Ernest said: "This is not a new issue. There have been concerns about this crossing ever since it was introduced in 1992 by the South Glamorgan County Council.
"I have received many complaints from motorists and residents. Since 1992 I have urged the council's traffic department to make alterations there.
As far as I am aware there have not been any serious accidents but I can see the potential for problems."
