I was pleasantly surprised to see David Davies win a bronze medal at the Athens Olympic Games.

I hope Barry takes him to its heart. Kelly Holmes' open-top bus tour of her town would befit David. It isn't often a Barry lad achieves worldwide acclaim. He's only 19 and is expected to challenge the world's top swimmers over the next few years.

So come on Vale of Glamorgan Council and Barry people - let's toast him!
