DVD review of Gothika

FORGET the popcorn. The only thing you'll need to watch Gothika is a great big cushion to hide behind.

The film was hammered by critics, but the only bad word to be said about this chilling thriller is that the lighting is almost too atmospheric - to the point of not being able to see what's going on.

Starring Halle Berry as brilliant criminal psychologist Miranda Grey, Gothika is a suspenseful film with a complicated but worthwhile plot.

After a terrible storm and a near-miss accident Miranda wakes to find herself a patient in her own institution, facing accusations that she killed her own husband.

As she fights to regain her memory and secure her freedom, she becomes aware that she is not alone in this mystery.

Miranda has to unravel the past before she can figure out the present, and when everyone thinks you're suffering from delusions, that's not an easy thing to do.

This is not a film for the nervous and if you do bring the popcorn don't hold it in your lap - or you'll find your neighbour wearing it!
